This black manta ray was sighted on a late afternoon dive in the waters off the Kona Coast in 1999. It is an all black manta except for its white belly marks, hence the name. Because of the surrounding dark water it is impossible to see anything but the manta’s belly in this photo, but the markings are good enough to make a positive identification.
