Iki is a baby male and the smallest manta
that we've ever seen. When he first appeared at the Kailua Pier, he was just barely
3' across and looked like a little toy as he swam back and forth. Baby mantas
are about two and half to three feet across when born. We named him Iki which
means "small" in the Hawaiian language. In this photo taken during the
day on July 30, 1996, his tiny claspers can be seen as well as a very small remora
which seems large relative to Iki's size.
