This large pelagic ray was spotted feeding in a current line off shore in South Kona by 3 Room Cave. This "white manta"is also sometimes called a "pelagic manta" and is the same species as the ones we see repeatedly in Kona. The pelagic's typically have fewer spots on their ventral side and a more pronounced chevron pattern on their dorsal surface. This one also has 2 large remora's attached catching a ride. |
